...ABOUT FSM

Our first objective is to encourage patients to claim the promise, “God hath not given us the spirit of fear, but of power” II Timothy 1:7. When our initial contact is made, the patient is given a monogrammed lap blanket inscribed with that scripture reference, the individual’s name and “Faith Support Ministry.” As the patient progresses through treatment and recovery, it is our hope the blanket will serve as a tangible reminder of other efforts going on behind the scenes of our ministry.

An Encouragement Leader is assigned to each individual patient. He or she is responsible for organizing prayer support and encouragement through cards, e-mails, calls, visits or other appropriate means.

Additionally, there are Mentor Volunteers in the program who are available to answer questions as well as provide guidance from the time of diagnosis through treatment and recovery. Each mentor has survived some type of cancer and is willing to share from their experience. Currently, these volunteers represent breast, ovarian, prostate and testicular cancer.

There is also a Patient Advocacy Council as part of the ministry. Chaired by Pat Watkins, MLT, a retired health care administrator, the Council can assist patients with any administrative problems concerning their medical care, insurance claims, financial needs, etc.

...FSM Founder

Hello! My name is Elaine Moran. I was diagnosed with breast cancer in June 2003. It came at a time in my life when I was busy pursuing a career and trying to balance other areas like home and family. My commitment to the Lord was weak and, in reality, I wasn’t doing a very good job with anything.

Breast cancer initially scared me to death! It was the first time in my life I faced the fact that I really might die. But, God sent a precious lady to minister to me who had been through the same experience. She helped me realize my life (or death) was in God’s hands. As I accepted His will He continued to provide a host of other people who poured out encouragement and support during the months that followed.

My busy life slowed down to a “snail’s pace.” As I recuperated from surgeries and chemotherapy there was plenty of time to pray and study God’s Word and seek His will – and that’s what I did – more than ever before.

Through my experience, God impressed upon my heart a deep desire to minister to others with long term illnesses such as cancer. As a result, THE FAITH SUPPORT MINISTRY was organized in April 2004.

I am so grateful to those at Faith Baptist Church who believe in the vision and work in the ministry. God is blessing us as we grow. Praise be to God!!!
